Quick Install: The Perfect Atomic Clock Solution for Your RV

Quick Install: The Perfect Atomic Clock Solution for Your RV

If you’re looking for a reliable atomic clock solution for your RV, you’ve likely realized that resetting the microwave every time you move camp is a chore you don’t need. I recently found a way to mount a WallerGe Digital Atomic Clock and outdoor temp sensor in just 5 minutes using Command strips.

It’s a simple, non-permanent upgrade that keeps you on schedule and tracks the weather without drilling a single hole in your walls.

Why This Clock?

I chose this specific model for a few key reasons:

  • Self-Setting: Since it’s an atomic clock, it handles the time and DST adjustments automatically.
  • Dual Temperatures: It provides both indoor and outdoor readings.
  • Battery Operated: No need to worry about wiring or losing the time when the shore power is disconnected.

The Hardware: Command Picture Hanging Strips

To mount the clock, I used Command Large Picture Hanging Strips (17047-3ES). These were the perfect choice for a mobile environment for two reasons:

  1. Non-Permanent: I didn’t want to drill holes in the RV walls, and I needed to be able to remove the clock easily to change the batteries or access the setting buttons on the back.
  2. Stability: The hook-and-loop (velcro-style) system provides extra grip. By using the extra strips included in the pack, the clock is secured tightly against the wall, preventing it from swinging or rattling while driving down the highway.

The 5-Minute Installation

The process was incredibly straightforward:

  • The Clock: I applied the Command strips to the back of the clock and the wall surface, pressed firmly, and snapped it into place.
  • The Sensor: The clock comes with a wireless external temperature sensor. To get an accurate reading, it needs to be out of direct sunlight but exposed to the air. I found a perfect spot underneath the RV, using zip ties to secure the sensor directly to the frame. This keeps it protected from the sun while giving me a real-time look at the outside weather.

Conclusion

This was a quick, inexpensive “quality of life” upgrade. Now, the second we level the jacks, I have the exact time and the outside temperature ready to go—no programming required.

Pro Tip: If you’re mounting items in an RV, always opt for the “Picture Hanging” version of Command strips over the standard hooks. The interlocking fastener prevents the item from bouncing off the hook during transit!
