Troubleshooting Guide

Check the Power Source

Ensure that the TV is securely connected to a working power outlet. If you’re using a power strip or surge protector, make sure it’s switched on and functioning properly. Try plugging the TV directly into a different outlet to eliminate the possibility of a faulty power source.

Verify the power cord

Examine the power cord for any signs of damage or fraying. If you notice any issues, try using a different power cord that is compatible with your TV model. Sometimes, a faulty power cord can prevent the TV from turning on.

Check the remote control and buttons

Ensure that the batteries in the remote control are not depleted. Replace them with fresh batteries and try turning on the TV again. Additionally, try pressing the power button on the TV itself to rule out any problems with the remote control.

On the TCL 55S405 tv the power button is on the bottom just below the TCL logo. there are 3 buttons and the power button is the middle one.

Perform a power cycle

Unplug the TV from the power outlet, wait for about 1-2 minutes, and then plug it back in. This process helps to discharge any residual power and can sometimes resolve minor glitches that prevent the TV from turning on.

Inspect the indicator lights

Look for any indicator lights on the TV. If you see a standby or power LED that is lit or blinking, it indicates that the TV is receiving power but may be experiencing a different issue. Refer to the TV’s manual or contact the manufacturer’s support for further guidance.

Check for a software update

Some TVs require periodic software updates to address bugs and improve performance. If possible, connect the TV to the internet and check for any available software updates. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to perform the update.

Reset the TV to factory settings

If the TV has a built-in reset option, you can try performing a factory reset to eliminate any software issues. Keep in mind that this will erase all customized settings and preferences, so it’s recommended to consult the user manual or manufacturer’s support before proceeding.

The TCL 55S405 does have a reset button next to where the inputs are located on the back side of the TV.

Replace power supply board

At this point, if you tried all the above steps and the TV still doesn’t power on, you may have a faulty power supply board. This was the case with my TV. If you are a DIY Dad like myself and are not afraid to take things apart, please take a look at my article for how I replaced the power supply board on my TCL 55S405 TV.

Contact technical support

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it’s best to reach out to the manufacturer’s technical support or customer service. Provide them with the details of the problem and the steps you’ve already taken. They will be able to guide you further and recommend appropriate solutions or arrange for a repair if needed.

Remember, working with electronics involves some level of risk. If you’re not comfortable troubleshooting the TV yourself, it’s advisable to seek assistance from a qualified technician or professional.
