San Diego Metro KOA Resort Review

San Diego Metro KOA Resort Review

Amidst the whirlwind of transitions and new beginnings, our family embarked on an unexpected adventure in August 2023. With our son heading to SDSU and our daughter settling into her apartment near UCSD, we found ourselves at the vibrant crossroads of San Diego, and our home base for this memorable chapter was the San Diego Metro KOA Resort in Chula Vista. Little did we know that not only would this campground become our sanctuary during the bustling move-ins, but it would also stand as a resilient bastion against the tempestuous tropical storm Hilary. Join us on this journey as we recount our stay at this remarkable campground, where family bonds were strengthened, and nature’s forces tested our mettle.

This campground offers a variety of camping options from large RV sites, eco tents, a variety of cabin options and even tent camping. Located in Chula Vista you are only minutes from San Diego and the surrounding areas.

Campsite Review

We stayed at site 1204 which is one of their 50 amp sites with full hook ups. This was a pull through site and had a nice concrete pad. We had a lot of room and could even park the additional car we brought with us on the concrete pad. There were a couple of trees to provide some shade and also had a shrub that helped give you a little more privacy from the neighboring site. The site also had a picnic table and fire ring.

The only negative thing about this site was that the cable TV did not function. It seemed to be an issue with the box at this site as I did test the one at the neighboring site and that one worked just fine.

Natural Surroundings

Nestled within the embrace of the San Diego Metro KOA Resort, we found ourselves immersed in a natural sanctuary that defied its proximity to the bustling urban areas of San Diego. As soon as we ventured beyond the campsite boundaries, we were greeted by a captivating landscape that transported us to a different world. Towering trees formed a protective canopy overhead, their leaves rustling in the gentle breeze, offering shade and a symphony of soothing sounds.

Campground Staff

We didn’t really interact with the staff other than the lady that checked us in when we arrived. I did want to point out that the day after tropical storm Hilary rolled through, they had a large presence of workers cleaning up after the storm and also on the Sunday the storm was coming through they had workers prepping for the storm and trimming trees.
